When you donate a vehicle through Cleveland Car Connect, your car is picked up right at your door anywhere in Greater Cleveland, and the proceeds support Heritage for the Blind’s mission to help people who are blind or visually impaired. That means a simple, local pickup for you—and meaningful support for neighbors and families who rely on vision-loss services. Whether you’re in Ohio City, Tremont, Collinwood, Old Brooklyn, or downtown by Playhouse Square, we come to you.
Here’s how it works: you schedule a free pickup, we assign a local towing partner, and they meet you at your home, workplace, or another agreed location. In denser areas like Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, and University Circle, pickups are often slotted into daytime windows to navigate tighter streets and parking. In suburbs and outlying communities—Parma, Westlake, Mentor, Strongsville, Elyria, Medina, and more—we coordinate around longer driving routes. You don’t pay a cent for towing, and after your vehicle sells, you receive a tax receipt while Heritage for the Blind receives funds to support its programs serving people who are blind.
How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your vehicle and location
Start by sharing a few basics: your car’s year, make, model, condition, and where it’s parked in the Cleveland area. Whether it’s in a garage in Shaker Heights, a driveway in Parma, or a lot downtown, this helps us match you with the right local tow partner.
2. Choose a pickup day that works for you
We’ll offer available time windows based on your address—city neighborhoods like Ohio City and Detroit–Shoreway may have tighter scheduling than outlying towns like Medina or Chardon. You pick the day and general time window that best fits your schedule for a free, contactless pickup.
3. Prepare your keys and title (if available)
Before the tow truck arrives, remove personal items and have the keys ready. If you have the Ohio title, keep it handy so the driver or our team can guide you on where to sign. If you’re missing the title, we’ll walk you through possible options in your situation.
4. Meet (or coordinate access for) the local tow driver
On pickup day, a local tow operator comes right to your curb, driveway, or garage. In tighter streets—like Little Italy or parts of Lakewood—we may ask you to move the vehicle to a corner or lot where a flatbed can safely load it.
5. Relax while we handle sale and tax paperwork
After the vehicle is picked up, Cleveland Car Connect manages the sale and sends the proceeds to Heritage for the Blind. You’ll receive a tax receipt—typically for at least $500, or the sale price if higher—along with any required IRS Form 1098-C information.
6. Know your local gift is making a difference
Your donated vehicle helps fund programs and services for people who are blind or visually impaired through Heritage for the Blind. Your decision to give locally keeps support connected to real people in the Cleveland community and across Ohio.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight Cleveland streets and alley parking
Tip: Many Cleveland neighborhoods—like Tremont, Detroit–Shoreway, and Ohio City—have narrow streets or alley spots that are tricky for flatbeds. If possible, plan to park your vehicle on a main street or in a nearby lot so the tow truck can reach it safely and on time.
Gated lots, garages, and building access codes
Tip: Downtown, University Circle, and high-rise garages around Lakewood and Cleveland Heights often require fobs or codes. Share any gate codes, concierge info, or garage instructions when scheduling so the driver doesn’t get delayed at the entrance or loading area.
Permit-only or HOA parking rules
Tip: If you live in a condo, townhouse community, or a neighborhood with permit-only parking, check any HOA or city rules about tow trucks coming in. Let us know about permits or check-in requirements so we can avoid tickets, towing conflicts, or rescheduled pickups.
Rural or outlying Ohio addresses
Tip: For properties outside the main metro—in areas near Chardon, Burton, Lodi, or rural parts of Geauga and Medina Counties—routes may be grouped together. Being flexible with pickup windows helps us coordinate the tow and still keep your donation completely free.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If an at-home pickup is difficult—for example, if your vehicle is buried in a tight backyard, stuck in a low-clearance garage, or parked where trucks can’t enter—we’ll work with you on alternatives. In some cases, you may be able to meet the tow truck at a nearby shopping center, public lot, or wide residential street in your area. We can also coordinate with a trusted friend, neighbor, or building manager to release the vehicle if you can’t be present, as long as access and keys are arranged in advance.
Cleveland pickup coverage
Cleveland Car Connect serves all of Greater Cleveland: city neighborhoods like Glenville, Slavic Village, Edgewater, and Kamm’s Corners; inner-ring suburbs such as Lakewood, Euclid, Parma, Cleveland Heights, and Garfield Heights; and outlying communities including Mentor, Lorain, Brunswick, Medina, and Elyria. Urban pickups may be scheduled in tighter time windows due to traffic and parking, while rural and exurban routes are often grouped by day. For Ohio titles, you generally sign over ownership and remove your plates; many donors return plates or cancel registration through the Ohio BMV to stop future fees. We’re happy to point you to official BMV resources for your specific situation.
